Part-Time Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist will ensure payroll is accurate, timely and compliant while maintaining a high level of integrity and confidentiality.  This person will continually pursue process improvements and take a lead role in testing new payroll technology for quality assurance.

  • Accurate and timely processing of payroll for all part-time faculty, faculty overage payments and non-exempt employees. 
  • Process expense reimbursement, tuition reimbursement, general deductions, and taxation of recognition rewards.
  • Process payroll in accordance with the standard operating procedures and state and federal legislation.
  • Develop and initiate spreadsheets and queries to verify accuracy, audit and reconcile payroll; initiate payroll process and generate pay advices.
  • Process payroll forms such as W-4s and Direct Deposit Authorizations.
  • Process and reconcile W-2s.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide information to employees and external customers on payroll matters, tax issues, and other payroll related matters.   
  • Keep informed about changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process. Ensure payroll is processed according to standard operating practices and state and federal laws.
  • Recommend system enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy; participate in project team to design, develop and test enhancements for quality assurance.
  • Effectively communicate new payroll updates, important dates, and technology changes; create effective payroll technology user guides, tutorial videos and in person trainings and orientations. Primary contact for assisting customers with payroll technology questions and problem solving.
  • Complete and submit part-time faculty unemployment verifications and respond to unemployment office and customer inquiries.  
  • Back up payroll team member.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Associate degree in Accounting or related field
Experience: Four years directly related experience.

 **An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Computer Skills

Microsoft Excel and human resource information system or payroll system experience; People Soft experience preferred.
